Une grosse vache a été vue errant à Johnston, R.I., à des kilomètres de la ferme la plus proche, apparemment après avoir échappé à un grossiste qui la déchargeait dans un abattoir dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi.
Le bouvillon de 1 600 livres a été repéré pour la première fois dans une rue résidentielle du quartier jeudi matin, selon WPRI-TV. La police et les agents du contrôle des animaux n’ont pas pu capturer ou transporter l’animal. Ils l’ont suivie jusqu’à une zone boisée, où elle s’est éclipsée.
La police a confirmé que la vache s’était échappée de Rhode Island Beef & Veal Inc, qui s’est refusé à tout commentaire.
L’animal a été repéré pour la première fois à Johnston, à environ 16 kilomètres à l’ouest de Providence, par Tho Xaykosy, un chauffeur Uber. « C’était vers 2 heures du matin, j’étais en route pour récupérer un passager, je regarde à ma gauche, et il y avait une vache là, qui traînait, attendant le feu rouge ! Quand le feu est devenu vert, la vache est partie ! » a déclaré Xaykosy à WJAR-TV. « Au début, je pensais que je voyais des choses. Je dois être fatigué, mais non, c’est une vache pour de vrai. »
Le chef de la police de Johnston a déclaré que la police était toujours à la recherche de l’animal, mais qu’elle ne l’avait pas trouvé et n’avait pas reçu d’autres appels concernant sa localisation.
Les médias sociaux étaient jonchés de messages soutenant l’animal et proposant de le sauver de l’abattage. « Nous devons faire beaucoup de bruit et faire savoir aux gens que nous nous battons pour lui afin qu’ils puissent se joindre à nous et offrir leur soutien ! » a écrit Victoria Flores, une résidente de Providence, R.I., sur la page Facebook Rhode Island Vegan Awareness. « Il se bat si fort pour être libre ! »
Elle a dit avoir contacté divers sanctuaires de la région pour essayer d’aider. De multiples commentaires à ce post insistaient : « Nous devons sauver la vache ! ». WJAR a rapporté que Smokey Chestnut Farm Rescue à Norton, R.I., propose de donner un foyer à la vache en fuite, une fois qu’elle sera finalement appréhendée.

A large cow was seen wandering Johnston, R.I., miles from the nearest farm, apparently after it slipped away from a wholesaler who was unloading it at a slaughterhouse overnight Thursday.
The 1,600-pound steer was first spotted on a residential street in the neighborhood Thursday morning WPRI-TV reported. Police and Animal Control officials could not capture or transport the animal. They followed it to a wooded area, where it slipped out of sight.
Police confirmed that the cow escaped from Rhode Island Beef & Veal Inc., which declined to comment.
The animal was first spotted in Johnston, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) west of Providence, by Tho Xaykosy, an Uber driver. “It was about 2 a.m. I was on my way to pick up a passenger, and I look to my left, and there was a cow there, just hanging out, waiting for the red light! When it turned green, the cow goes!” Xaykosy told WJAR-TV. “I thought I was seeing things at first. I must be tired, but no, that’s a cow for real.”
Johnston Police Chief said police were still looking but hadn’t found it or gotten any more calls about its location.
Social media was littered with posts supporting the animal and offering to save it from slaughter.
“We need to make a lot of noise and let people know we’re fighting for him so they can join in and offer their support!” wrote Providence, R.I., resident Victoria Flores on the Rhode Island Vegan Awareness Facebook page. “He’s fighting so hard to be free!”
She said she contacted various sanctuaries in the region to try to help. Multiple comments to that post insisted, “We must save the cow!” WJAR reported that Smokey Chestnut Farm Rescue in Norton, R.I., is offering to give the runaway cow a home, once he’s finally apprehended.
